Note | Her twin brother died shortly after birth and her mother died a few days later. Her father died when she was four years old leaving her orphaned, to be raised by her grandmother. When Rebecca was twelve years old she came to the United State s of America with her uncle Christ, his family, her grandmother, two brothers and three sisters. All of the family settled on homesteads in North Dakota and Minnesota in 1887. Uncle Christ moved his family to Gray's River, Washington and Rebecc a came with them. She lived there until she was about 16 years old and then she and her cousins Christine and Carrie went to Astoria, Oregon to work. They found work as maids in family homes. Then, Rebecca went to work as a waitress at the boar ding house where Hans was living. And, that is where they met. |
