Note | Winchester Bay, Oregon (which is on the southern Oregon coast). A jetty was being built there - he walked out on the construction site to inspect the work of other workers - the piling gave away and he fell and broke his neck. He and Rebecca ha d 13 children - a 14th child was stillborn. . He finished his education as a Civil Engineer in Germany. Hans came to the United States of America when he was seventeen years old. He went to Montana and lived with an uncle. Later, he travele d to Astoria, Oregon to find employment. In Astoria he worked building homes. He met Rebecca at the boarding house where he lived and she was working as a waitress. They were married in Astoria, Oregon in 1894. - For the first three years of th eir marriage Hans and Rebecca lived in Astoria where Hans was a carpenter and built houses. Hans then moved the family to Anaconda, Montana in 1897 where he worked in the copper mines. The air pollution in the mining area was having an advers e effect on the health of baby Willads. The family moved back to Astoria, Oregon (which is along the northern Oregon coast). Hans went to work for the U. S. Corps of Army Engineers, building jetties and working on other Corps building projects . The family moved to various places in the Pacific Northwest, often following Hans' job working on various projects for the Corps. Hans was fatally injured while inspecting construction work on a jetty on the southern Oregon coast. He die d in 1930. The family at that time had been living in Boring, Oregon - but a short while after his death, Rebecca moved back to Astoria and lived there until her death in 1954. - With Hans & Rebecca's family of 13 children, the family has blossom ed over the years with grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and on and on. The extended family works in numerous occupations, all over the United States of America. There seem to be quite a few school teachers and engin eers in the large group....but also accountants, secretarys, foresters, fishermen, loggers...and just about any occupation you can think of!! - I myself live on the northern Oregon coast at Tillamook, Oregon. Tillamook is about 70 miles south of Astoria, where Hans and Rebecca started their married life. I grew up on the southern Oregon coast at Charleston (near Coos Bay). My father wa s a commercial fisherman. My mother (the only daughter of Willads Lunds) was a homemaker. My grandfather Willads followed in his father's footsteps and worked for the U. S. Corps of Army Engineers, as did several other Lund family members . I had two sisters - one of whom died in 2005. I have been married to a man from New York State since 1971. We have two daughters. One daughter lives nearby and will be married in August of this year. The other daughter lives with her husba nd and our only grandchild (so far!!) in North Carolina.
